The flickering fluorescent lights of the hospital waiting room hummed, a counterpoint to the thrumming in Elias’s temples. He ran a hand through his thinning hair, the gesture more habit than comfort. Days bled into weeks, each a blur of paperwork, hushed conversations, and the persistent weight of responsibility.
